The golden jubilee celebrations of the commencement of MA English course in Union Christian College, Aluva were held in the college on 20 December 2018 (Thursday). Personalities from various walks of life congregated on the campus for a whole day of sweet reminiscences and joyous fellowship. Film, theatre and literary critic Dr. Josy Joseph, Associate Professor, SB College, Changanassery delivered the keynote address. He spoke on truth, power and the event of literature. The teachers and students of the first batch were honoured with ‘ponnadas’. They relived their moments on the campus, sharing hilarious anecdotes, and lessons of life imbibed from the department. Namboorimash, a memoir authored by Smt. S. Sarathammal, a student of the first batch, was released during the function by Prof. G D Gabriel. The former teachers and alumni were also present during the function. The Principal Dr. Thara K Simon and the Manager Rev. Thomas John also addressed the gathering. Later in the day a play conceptualised by Sri. Cheri Jacob K, (HoD, Department of English), ‘454: A (Non) Play’ was staged with the entire 50th MA batch students on stage.
