The Department of English, one of the oldest departments of Union Christian College, has been functioning since 1921. The postgraduate course in English Language and Literature was started in 1968. The department has been a Research Centre since 1990, with many scholars working under the supervision of our approved faculty research guides. In the tradition of stalwarts like Prof. Malcolm Muggeridge and Prof. Aravamunda Iyyengar, pioneers of the department, and Prof. C. I. Benjamin, Prof. E. Narayanan Nambiar, and Prof. G. D. Prof. C.T. Benjamin Endowment Award, instituted by the Department for students with highest marks from the passing out batches of MA & BA courses, were awarded to Ms. Hefziba Susan Jojo (2nd MA) and Sr. Amala Abraham (3rd BA) on 24 October, 2024. The endowment has been instituted by the family of Prof. C.T. Benjamin.
